The objective of this general health survey conducted in Inuit territory between September 17 and December 1, 1992, was to provide key indicators of the general level of health by determining the prevalence and nature in Quebec Inuit of acute and chronic health problems, both physical and mental, as well as ailments affecting the Inuit population, including disabilities of all kinds. The survey reached 1567 people (one-quarter of the Inuit population) living in 14 villages between the 55th and 63rd parallels. Data were gathered by 6 nurses and 34 Inuit interviewer/interpreters; some 1500 bilingual questionnaires (Inuktitut/English) were completed, and more than 500 Inuit aged 18 to 74 attended the clinics to have anthropometric measurements and blood samples taken.
