(1) Among the male Chukotka Natives, neither daily drinkers nor total abstainers were found. The percentage of abstainers among female Natives was also low. (2) Lifetime abstainers were not found among the Chukotka Natives (except in females of the older age groups). (3) Mean doses per typical drinking occasion and mean weekly doses were very high, both among Chukotka males and females (higher than in Western Siberia). (4) Alcohol dependence was very prevalent, particularly "loss of control" and "abstinence," in both men and women. (5) Flushing was found in 12.8% of males and 27% of females. This phenomenon is considered to be atypical, because patch-ethanol test was positive only in 2% of males and 3.5% of females. (6) Heavy drinkers of both sexes were more often found among those who experienced flushing than those who did not. (7) ALDH2 genotype was not found in the Chukotka Natives.
