The survey of Alaska's health by the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh, was requested by the Department of the Interior. It was conducted during 1953 and 1954 by a team of 18 specialists with a diversity of skills. Most of the team traveled extensively in the Territory, observing problems at first hand and interviewing many Alaskans in all walks of life.
