A vital component of the health care system in the state is the Alaska Area Native Health Service (AANHS). As one of eleven area offices within the Indian health Service, the AANHS delivers health services to Native Alaskans through Native and tribally operated health corporations in eight Alaska area service units and three service areas. This publication describes the local conditions, health care delivery system, health corporations, and health statistics in each service unit or area.
