In the United States, the prevalence of childhood obesity has increased over the last 40 years (1). Research demonstrates that obese children are more likely to become obese adults and this tracking of paediatric obesity into adulthood may have detrimental implications for long-term health (2,3). The identification of factors affecting weight and fat gain in the paediatric population is necessary for the prevention of obesity-related comorbidities.
