The authors studied the infection course in newborns during the early postnatal period with respect to different medicosocial factors of their mothers and parents. Premature birth with a prolonged fluid-free period and chorioamnionitis as well as unregistered marriage, delayed visit of pregnant woman to the maternity welfare clinic and insufficient medical examination before birth were found to be risk factors of infection in newborns; the same is true of a poor educational standards and dissatisfaction of mothers with their well-being.
